What motivates you to mentor creatives?

What’s your current role and origin story as a creative?

I’m a Designer/Art Director with a big passion for brand & marketing strategies. I actually started my career in Marketing communications where I loved to volunteer designing, until the day that Powerpoint was not my daily tool anymore.

I decided to go back to school and held an M.A. with a deep interested in commercial design, brand & marketing strategies and luxury industry. After that I became a designer with customer focus plus design strategies.

What creative work(s) are you the proudest of?

It might not be a proudest but it’s very special to me. At my wedding, we planned to have a tote bag as a souvenir and my job was designing it (of course haha). I wanted people to use the tote, design should not very personal, not tacky, minimal but it relate to our story.

It took me weeks to do and I found out that my Thai name actually means heart and his Chinese name means sun. So we ended up tattooing ourselves first, then we made it into a souvenir. It emphasized one of my principles: Enjoy the journey, don't just focus on the destination.

What’s your current “creative studio”/desk setup like?

I love the corner table with plants, I set up my table next to the patio and sunlight. Next to my desk is my couch. I keep it here to remind myself to take breaks.

I like to move around and reorganize my workspace a lot, it improves my creative flow and I see things at a different angle.

Where do you go to get inspired?

My jam is going to the park. I love greens and plants. Parks are full of livelihood in different forms. It puts me in a zen zone and gives me the oxygen which reminds me to keep a human touch in anything I do. I like to go with a book, not a laptop or iPad, and sit on the grass with my dog, listening to music and a cup of iced tea.

Do you have a ritual, or time of day that unleashes your creative powers?

I found myself very focused when there are sounds of water dripping from a fountain or rain. I used to be a fan of ambient music but lately, when I have at 4-5 meetings per day, I feel my brain needs silence in order to focus.

I always block my cal so no one can call or ping me while I’m in my zone. I turn off notifications on my phone and watch. I only keep the water drinking reminder on. Too many meetings kill my creativity.

What’s an album that changed your life?

It's influenced by my dad who is a diehard fan of The Eagles. I've listened to rock ever since I was little and it will always be my fav. The Red Hot Chili Peppers is my forever band. I sold the cassette collection that I collected since 1999 “Californication” to pay my tuition in 2011. I sold all their band t-shirt collections that I collected since I was 12 in 2013 for my final art exhibition in order to finish my M.A. Their collections saved my education and remind me to live life in the moment and just enjoy it. When I listen to RHCP, it always pumps up my energy and keeps me focused in life.
